Yelp Event – “Stitches and Hos”

Firstly I want to apologise that this is a little late. I have come down with a cold/cough and feeling a little under the weather. I also have to write about our trip to London which happened ages ago but..yeah. Life has been a little stressful recently but that’s why I am going to write about all the FUN things we have been upto!

IMG_2553 IMG_2558
Me and Charlie got invited to a Yelp event promoting Stitches and Hos knitting/sewing circle, along with Vedett beer. The event was hosted by Cherry Red’s which is a pretty amazing venue hidden away in Birmingham. We sat at the back sharing a table with a lovely couple who we pretty much got chatting to all night! There were amazing cherry cupcakes, I think it was one of the tastiest cupcakes I ever ate in my life.

IMG_2562 IMG_2554
The Stitches and Hos guys were really nice, friendly and most importantly patient with us lot who had never touched wool before. We got to make pom poms using some…device for making pom poms. I actually found that really relaxing to do, and I am tempted to pick up one of the things to sit and wrap wool around it! I never would of thought I would of enjoyed it, but I gave it a go and proved myself wrong!

IMG_2555
Vedett beer. Now I am not a big beer/lager drinker, so I couldn’t compare the taste to anything. But I can say I actually DID like it. It was really light and refreshing, would of really complimented a curry haha! We also had our photos taken to be put on the actual beer bottles…so who knows, you might see our faces on some beer one day.

After the event we stayed around for another beer (Vedett of course!) and honestly I would say I would happily go again to the venue, I’d probably go knitting too, I mean it might come in handy one day?  Also, excuse my mainly hidden face, I had just come from work. Also free hat!

Sunday Service: Bats

My Sunday service posts are basically a run down of interesting finds from various shops over the week. This one will be a themed post, on bats! I really love bats and Halloween things and there seems to be a fair amount still in the shops! A few of these are in the sale which is even better isn’t it?

Sunday Service: H&M Grey Concept

Sunday service is going to be a scheduled weekly post I do (on a Sunday, obviously!), showing all the interesting clothing pieces I have found over the week.
This week I am going to be focusing on H&M’s Grey Concept. I have picked this one first due to the fact the H&M store I work in have decided I am the Grey Concept ambassador due to wearing it so much! If you are into more unusual pieces, Korean style and “Goth Ninja” I would say check out this concept. A lot of the pieces have much more unusual cuts and shapes than the average high street shops (in the UK). Also I would say a lot of it can be worn unisex.

Shopping Haul

Long time no see everyone! I have been so pre-occupied with the new job and life in general that I have neglected here a little bit! So I am gonna start the new year of blogging off with a “what I brought over the last few months, and mostly in the last month” post. I have been busy buying to be honest, a lot of it is sale material though so it was pretty cheap.

OK! Lets start with the fact the majority of stuff I have brought is H&M, the staff discount is honestly dangerous…it is mainly grey concept I will be honest cause let’s face it, it is the best hahah.

IMG_2047 IMG_2030 IMG_2033
IMG_2031 IMG_2028 IMG_2032
Mainly grey colours huh? The scarf has a hood attached which is cool! The funnel neck top I was eyeing up for ages…

IMG_2039
I also found this coat in black. I got the blue version as a gift, and now I have two! It’s really comfy, and looks cool.

IMG_2048 IMG_2049
Some more H&M grey concept and a couple of shirts from River Island sale. Seriously, look at the print!
IMG_2050
How cool is that?

IMG_2034 IMG_2036 IMG_2035
IMG_2037 IMG_2041 IMG_2045
A cool red and black raglan from Topman, haven’t worn it yet as the weather is a bit naff really. The white shirt in the middle is from Taobao, it can be tied in a big bow and I wanna use it when I do a sort of Kodona/Ouji piece, eventually. The ripped jeans are also Taobao. The waistcoats are from H&M and Topman (and the shorts), and jackets are H&M and Primark.

IMG_2029 IMG_2027 IMG_2044
IMG_2043
Most of the accessories are H&M, Topman and River Island. The scarf is, well…Diesel. The bag is from a cheap shop in Birmingham!

This beautiful All Saints passport cover is a gift (along with the passport lol!) from lovely Charlie, so this year we will be travelling outside of England! The rest is H&M again, more for costume things rather than day to day stuff.

On the subject of costume things, I have been buying stuff for that too.

IMG_2040 IMG_2042 IMG_2038
The capes are Tesco and Debenhams, the trousers are Ann Summers and the bat top is Killstar! This is for my more dressy uppy wardrobe, and will probably see the goth clubs a fair bit.
IMG_2051
Also H&M and Topman, a horrendous fur coat which will work wonders for certain cosplay characters, and bat leggings and a pumpkin top. Uh, Halloween cast offs. Who cares if it is in the “girl” section?

IMG_2054
Also some Dune boots, New Look and Primark. I swear the bat leggings and red boots, capes…I may as well just cosplay Noel Fielding.

So, below are some pics of me wearing the new stuff, cause to be honest I don’t look good to wear it right now, hahah I am almost in bed!

Kiko Make-up Post (And a few other things…)

Firstly hello again! Sorry it has all been a bit quiet but with expo and starting a new job everything has been a little crazy! I will write about expo in another post, but whilst in London we took a trip to the Kiko store. It is an Italian brand of cosmetics and I have got to say I am sold. It is a little cheaper than Illamasqua and such, so it was worth picking up a few supplies.
75511_500828440013604_296686697_n
I got:

Vibrant eye pencil (603)
Mineral face powder
High pigmented eyeshadow Infinity (239, 217, 213, 280, 200)
Waterproof and curling mascara
1381225_500828423346939_1251495584_n

The browns I got mainly for contouring, the blue is for an upcoming cosplay. The face powder is amazing, I used to use MAC but this is just as good and a lot cheaper. It feels really light and smooth, and I would happily recommend it. I also got a box for their clicks system eye shadow; which means I now have something I can call a “pallet” lol! The mascara works well; they have a huge variety of different types. To be honest I would like to go back there, to pick a few more things up!

Browns next to each other. (On my forearm, resting on my leg haha)

On the subject of new make up, I just wanted to say that I have started using Missha BB cream (matte) and I would again recommend this for anyone who wants to look a little more flawless but natural, and it may be good for male cosplayers who are a little shy on using make-up or who just want good coverage! I can’t say much cause I plaster myself in stuff for cosplays, but it is very useful for every day good looking skin! Excuse my cat scratches!

Also, a shoutout to Sugarpill Cosmetics! As you can probably see from the banner I am advertising them on my blog, but for a good reason, because their pigment is too amazing not to work with. I believe their white to be more intense than Illamasqua, and I really like both brands. I also have some eyelashes from them and they look amazing.

Their TAKO white is the best tbh. The other colour is BULLETPROOF.

I’m gonna apologise about lack of pics, and not much showing things as it getting late as my mind has been a bit all over the place recently, but I promise I will write about expo, and I will be getting a Taobao order come through soon so will be reviewing clothing and wig shops!

Outfits

Oh yes, went out and brought some new things! I got to take advantage of Charlie’s student discount (hohoh thank you) and brought a couple of things!

IMG_6669
My outfit of the day.

First thing I got recently was a new jacket from Primark. It was only £30, but it fits really well for a cheaper one. I’ve wanted a decent black jacket for a while now, so snatched this one up.

1209278_490118394417942_1125967423_n 1384312_490118221084626_1852789588_n
1378799_490118261084622_864978807_n

I’ve also acquired a Topman waistcoat, something else I have been after. That was £20, which is a bit pricier, but after trying on a Primark brand, the one I got fits so much better. Also in the Topman spend I got a hat, cause I am a sucker for hats. Topshop, in the main section, had a beautiful fur collar, which had to be got. I really have been after dressy-uppy things recently so it felt like a good haul.

H&M had some fantastic striped black and dark grey trousers and I needed a pair of these too in my life. Unfortunately they only have women’s versions but..men’s fashion is so boring in the UK, that I thought hell to it. They fit, that is the important thing. Charlie treated me to some cute Halloween-esque badges too :3.

Whilst in the Rag Market in Brum too, we stumbled across a new stall called Little Italy. Charlie has a bit of info on them from his latest blog post here, but I fell in love with this shirt, which can easily be used for some sort of..VK, or EGA or something costumey. Again, sadly it is going to have to be taken in at the bust, as it is fitted for women, but it is cool and zips up so no weird sided buttons or anything.
I would really check them out if you are into mori-kei and the like cause their clothing was perfect for such a thing. The price was cheap, especially for somewhere which sources from the same place as All Saints. Norma who we were talking to is a darling who is very much into quality for affordability. The clothing is all from Italy (hence the name), and they have a lot of asymmetrical and layered styles in.

The quality of the shirt itself is good, I mean it is nice and thick, and soft, but also has a decent amount of stretch. You can tell they are made to fit really well, and very slimming.

This was tonight’s sort of look with myself, trying to hide the fact I have a cold, and Charlie did some pics for me so I can write about shizzle!

Also bagged some Chinese goodies from the supermarket…

Makeup – Mana

Whist I am doing stuff on the blog I thought I would babble on about doing Mana (of Malice Mizer, Moi Dix Mois fame) makeup. I haven’t done anything based around him for about 10 years, so I was kinda wondering if I could still do it. I wish I had a better camera at hand to take better pics for this as I realise putting them on the PC how grainy they are but…hey ho. I promise I will stop using my iPhone at some stage and use my proper camera…

I have used for this!:

Gothverine lol.

I’m quite happy I could still do it to some extent! I just wish I had a few better wigs for this kinda thing. Oh well! Malice Mizer cosplays may be on the horizon once again!

Wig Review – eBay seller “Zing-Vogue”

Firstly if any of you are reading from my wordpress blog, hello to my new self hosted site! (Even though I am still using WordPress ohoho).

Anyway, enough of that.

I was looking for a wig suitable for the Havi cosplay that should be happening next year sometime. I know its early but damn I really like wigs. I was after a fairly long, silver/grey wig, with some slight curling at the bottom. I came across this one in pink and I was pretty gutted, I don’t think I’ll ever need a pink wig. I thought I would ask the seller if they had any in grey/silver!

This is where I will happily recommend this shop. The seller contacted me straight away (give or take the time zone difference), and told me they would check their warehouse. The came back to me, offering me two different wigs in colours I might want (and attached pictures).  I happily asked for the darker grey one, and they said it would take about a week to get it in stock, they would let me know when it arrived.

Literally a week later they did inform me, and had put it up to buy in that colour on eBay. I nabbed it, and it was shipped very quickly. Now, I ordered this on 14/09/13, and I was expecting to receive it after London Expo (late October).  I got the item late September. I was actually quite excited on how fast this took to arrive.

So, the seller is brilliant. What about the product?

Free wig caps are always welcome!

Slapped on some suitable Havi face-paint lol.

The wig is thick, and soft. It is a really nice shade of grey/silver, and it is weighty too (I am a fan of weighty wigs). As it has been in a bag for so long though the curls are very compact, so will have to wear it to shake them out a bit. Also, I think I could of done with it a little longer, but otherwise it is a lovely wig and a welcome addition to the false hair family I have.

I cannot stress enough how much I would recommend Zing-Vogue as an eBay seller. They really helped me out, and have supplied a good product I am happy to wear, use, and talk about. I will be buying from them again myself, as I have just noticed some new wigs on their store…

Review – HobbyFx.co.uk Fangs

I have had these fangs since 2009, and they have lasted me well. When I wear them I always get asked where I got them from as they do look realistic, so I will give all the information out here!
Now, I like dressing up as vampires. Or demons. Or things that may have fangs.
I have tried the Scarecrow style fangs before, with the putty you use, and I had honestly no joy. They fall out, they get lost, they didn’t fit my teeth in all honesty. I find they also don’t quite match the colour of natural teeth. I know for some people they work fine, but I was after something a little more realistic.

HobbyFX I was really interested in due to the way they are made, and how they fit. Basically, you get a pack to make a mould of your teeth, send it back to the company, and they will create a unique set of teeth specifically designed to fit your mouth. They then just..”clip” in! It is a veneer which covers all the front teeth, which helps in looking natural.
1236533_486419424787839_2058397537_n
I remember doing the moulding was fairly easy, you had to heat it up into a sausage shape, press it against your teeth for a few moments, then remove, and let it dry.
The fangs themselves do take a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you can wear them for hours, drink in them, eat in them (to a certain extent), and most importantly, speak with hardly any difference.

The guy who owns the company is really helpful and lovely to deal with.
Now, the price has gone up since I got mine, but not really that bad still for what you are getting. I want to order from them again, and they also offer custom designs. They also offer a monthly payment plan, which is really useful I think.
They also do prosthetics and the like, but to me I think the fangs are the best thing about the shop.
Please check them out if you are after a good set of teeth!

Cosplay Progress + Review – SnK / Levi

Ok, so this cosplay is pretty much sourcing and buying rather than making, because it is so easy and cheap to find. Charlie scoured eBay and found the jackets we will be using.

The eBay seller is bigbigworld1991 and the items we have can be found here (NO. 1 on the colour choice).

We went for their “US M” size, and they are slightly on the bigger side, but it really adds to comfort. (Sizes are all available on the auction page).

The shop was pleasant to deal with. We were a bit concerned how long they were taking, but emailed the seller and they got back to me within the day, and told us the item was in the UK, and I believe the day after they turned up! I would happily recommend them.

The jacket itself is very well made. There are very few minor sewing hiccups but nothing really noticeable. The embroidered patches are lovely, and these jackets feature the blue details rather than black as some of the jackets you can buy do. The only thing it would of been nice to see was if the back patch was the same as the arm ones rather than just being stuck/printed on. We may buy the patches you can get to put on the back so they all match.

And pictures of it worn: (Please excuse my face with no make-up! I had a swollen spot/bite on my forehead and didn’t wanna put stuff around it).
