I recently got invited to be a guest at Birmingham Anime & Gaming Con, and it was a load of fun. I wanna thank you all who came and said hi, and I loved doing it. I would happily do … Continue reading
Firstly I have to apologise for the lateness of this, I currently am surrounded by lemsip and tissues due to the fact I have the flu or something. Anyway, here is my video of my recent trip to Glasgow for the … Continue reading
Wooo! So, apologies this took me so long, but this is my mainly video run down of the opening of Tokyo Toys in Birmingham (it’s my local city). There is already one in London and the company tends to have … Continue reading
I use Taobaonow as shipping company from Taobao, recommended to me by Charlie, they seem to be the easiest company to use. They are really friendly too!
Also these were damn cheap.
The shops I have brought from are:
Both of these are from Lingyisun. The quality is fantastic to be honest. The original image of the brown one showed it to be a little more orange though, sadly. But I would say that is the only fault from this shop. The blue wig, I CANNOT STRESS enough how GOOD the quality of this is. The gradient effect is done beautifully, and it is only going to need a bit of trimming. This has easily shot upto one of the best wigs I own.
This one is from FML cosplay. It is thick but needs a bit of playing with to get both sides to flair out. (For the character I have in mind it’ll need trimming too, but which wigs don’t?). It also seems a bit blonde in certain light.
The blue wig again is FML cosplay, the colour is gorgeous, but will need a fair bit of styling to sit right. The black one above is from lingyisun and whilst perhaps it isn’t the best wig in this bulk, it is really good value for money.
The top bob is FML cosplay again, and doesn’t quite look the same as the image, but it is a really nice wig for dressing up sake. The top side parting is xiaolaoshu1122; Charlie had one of these for cosplay and it is such a gorgeous wig I had to get one for having sake. The quality and thickness is amazing. The last wig is at the bottom, and worn in the outfit I have posted. It can pretty much be styled by playing with it, as you can see, it is pretty cool. That one is xiaolaoshu1122 also.
Seriously all in all there are some amazing wigs now sitting in my wig box. I would love to order more…
Firstly I want to apologise that this is a little late. I have come down with a cold/cough and feeling a little under the weather. I also have to write about our trip to London which happened ages ago but..yeah. Life has been a little stressful recently but that’s why I am going to write about all the FUN things we have been upto!
Me and Charlie got invited to a Yelp event promoting Stitches and Hos knitting/sewing circle, along with Vedett beer. The event was hosted by Cherry Red’s which is a pretty amazing venue hidden away in Birmingham. We sat at the back sharing a table with a lovely couple who we pretty much got chatting to all night! There were amazing cherry cupcakes, I think it was one of the tastiest cupcakes I ever ate in my life.
The Stitches and Hos guys were really nice, friendly and most importantly patient with us lot who had never touched wool before. We got to make pom poms using some…device for making pom poms. I actually found that really relaxing to do, and I am tempted to pick up one of the things to sit and wrap wool around it! I never would of thought I would of enjoyed it, but I gave it a go and proved myself wrong!
Vedett beer. Now I am not a big beer/lager drinker, so I couldn’t compare the taste to anything. But I can say I actually DID like it. It was really light and refreshing, would of really complimented a curry haha! We also had our photos taken to be put on the actual beer bottles…so who knows, you might see our faces on some beer one day.
After the event we stayed around for another beer (Vedett of course!) and honestly I would say I would happily go again to the venue, I’d probably go knitting too, I mean it might come in handy one day? Also, excuse my mainly hidden face, I had just come from work. Also free hat!
Oh yes, went out and brought some new things! I got to take advantage of Charlie’s student discount (hohoh thank you) and brought a couple of things!
First thing I got recently was a new jacket from Primark. It was only £30, but it fits really well for a cheaper one. I’ve wanted a decent black jacket for a while now, so snatched this one up.
I’ve also acquired a Topman waistcoat, something else I have been after. That was £20, which is a bit pricier, but after trying on a Primark brand, the one I got fits so much better. Also in the Topman spend I got a hat, cause I am a sucker for hats. Topshop, in the main section, had a beautiful fur collar, which had to be got. I really have been after dressy-uppy things recently so it felt like a good haul.
H&M had some fantastic striped black and dark grey trousers and I needed a pair of these too in my life. Unfortunately they only have women’s versions but..men’s fashion is so boring in the UK, that I thought hell to it. They fit, that is the important thing. Charlie treated me to some cute Halloween-esque badges too :3.
Whilst in the Rag Market in Brum too, we stumbled across a new stall called Little Italy. Charlie has a bit of info on them from his latest blog post here, but I fell in love with this shirt, which can easily be used for some sort of..VK, or EGA or something costumey. Again, sadly it is going to have to be taken in at the bust, as it is fitted for women, but it is cool and zips up so no weird sided buttons or anything.
I would really check them out if you are into mori-kei and the like cause their clothing was perfect for such a thing. The price was cheap, especially for somewhere which sources from the same place as All Saints. Norma who we were talking to is a darling who is very much into quality for affordability. The clothing is all from Italy (hence the name), and they have a lot of asymmetrical and layered styles in.
The quality of the shirt itself is good, I mean it is nice and thick, and soft, but also has a decent amount of stretch. You can tell they are made to fit really well, and very slimming.
This was tonight’s sort of look with myself, trying to hide the fact I have a cold, and Charlie did some pics for me so I can write about shizzle!
I ate all the chicken feet already :<
I think I felt like writing so I will post about last weekends excursion to London.
We basically took a trip down to London on the day for our friend Finlay’s leaving costume party (and birthday). I posted about clubbing with her a few posts back, and as she is a proper laugh to hang around with it was a little sad to think she is going!
Charlie made Titan themed cupcakes for the occasion (which tasted great but sadly died in transport down). We had a mad rush for the coach (which turned out to be late) and travelled down in style (in costume, haha). Also had lovely drinks on the way down of kokomo.
My fantasy costume consisted of a bit of randomness, I think I came out with a vampire demon pirate thing. Charlie did a ever so slightly Vald demon thing (which I do not have many pics of sadly).
The party itself was held at the Yorkshire Grey pub, it was closed purposely for the event which was quite nice, but my god even for London the drinks were expensive. There were many people we did not know there, but we have made a few friends from the event now, one of which who actually lives in Birmingham! It’s always fun to meet people local!
We did get pretty drunk and tbh the night ended in us dancing to the Attack on Titan theme and a load of Die Antwoord (ironically someone who worked there was South African and knew Ninja when he was Watkin), shouting COOONIE SPRINGAAA everywhere, and Charlie shaking hands with people. I remember also I was told to be a titan. It was a very titan night.
Finlay it has been fun, enjoy your time in France and Japan, and hope to see you again in a while!
We ended up waiting for our coach back the morning after by doing an all nighter in various McDonalds and Victoria Station. Then it was back home, and a well deserved sleep.
So, the girl we met in at the party is cosplaying Hanji (and now likely joining our London Expo group), and the photographer we met wants to take pics at the same event! Lovely meeting people like this :D.
Tomorrow we are going to go to meet some of the people from the Birmingham Cosplay Guild for the first time, and Sunday I have a cosplay shoot with DeclineGothica, so I will probably have a post about those too!
So, finally doing a write up on the last ever Ayacon (for those that don’t know it is a Japanese culture/anime/cosplay convention).
The Thursday before the con was pretty much making sure everything was indeed completed. Shazz came up to travel to the con with us, and we watched many a silly thing. Listened to some Rammstein as far as I remember too haha. It was an enjoyable travel to Coventry, as the con crack had already started, and we were singing Attack on Titan theme tune really badly to each other. As we were staying at different hotels, us and Shazz parted ways for the time being. The hotel we stayed in was the De Vere Village, the room was the upper suite, and the bed was fantastic. We had free Sky tv and HD movies and Starbucks drinks in the room. It worked out cheaper staying here than on the campus the convention was held at, so all in all a bargain really. We had a walk to the Warwick Arts Centre (though someone told us to go a really long way round) and met up with Shazz again, and had one drink…bloody bar was closing. The Costcutter there I must say is fantastic for food from all different countries. We ended up with loads of Italian snack food.
Today was Weiss Kreuz day! First things first, though, breakfast. The room we had gave us a free breakfast every morning, and coffee and tea, not bad stuff. So, we got made up, and hit the con. We had Kat joining us in this group, and met up with a few familiar faces. It was quite chilled out, but then towards the end of the night I threw up and we went home. Whoops lol.
This was the DOGS: Bullets and Carnage day. I think this was the most fun costume to wear in some ways. We skipped breakfast this day and got ready, and head on out. Immediately as we got out of the taxi though, the person whom we know who was cosplaying the “bad guy” from the series was walking towards us, completely unplanned…but a perfect meeting really. (You can find him here). We mooched round the dealers room, and we ended up acquiring this gem:
We changed into the evening gear and I took a shit load of crap selfies haha. Ended up back at the bar, with our crew. We wanted to go to the J-rock party, but it was scheduled for 1am, and it seemed really late to wait for especially cause we didn’t know if it would be good or not. We ended up briefly at the K-pop party, but the DJ then changed to J-idol music and everyone fucked off. We just went home after.
Vassalord and Gorillaz was the main aim for today. Vassalord was so fun, and a couple of people recognised it. Charlie and Shazz ended up with Balamb Garden T-shirts from here (Really cool stuff! Check em out!). We were introduced to a free purikura machine and played around in that for a bit. Then toddled off home to change into Gorillaz. Unfortunately there was some bug going round at this con, a lot of our friends got ill. Charlie got hit with it on the Sunday so we went back to the hotel and he got some rest. A lot of people missed the final party due to this, but hey there will always be another con!
After getting home I think even though I didn’t need to, I felt a bit low that it went so fast. We are hoping to re-wear some of the costumes for some pics, I have a cosplay shoot for a couple of them in September.
LONDON EXPO is next in October. I am highly excited for this, and we have groups which is exciting.
So, this is the last weekend before Ayacon, and we nipped into town to get some last bits and pieces for our cosplays. We also met up with Lulu, whom we haven’t seen in a long time, which was really nice. (She also does wig commissions here)
My first stop off was to try this Amazon locker thing, which was really cool. They are situated in the Bull Ring shopping centre, and it saved me having to pay shipping this way, which if you can get to one easily I think is worth it. I got my simplicity pattern for a new Murdoc cape which I haven’t had since 2008, so it will be nice to have one again.
Next was the markets, to pick up some poppers and elastic to finish off a couple of cosplay bits. I also went to get material for the cape, and ended up with 6 metres of each colour for £21 (though looks a bit funny on the computer), and damn there is a lot of material there. I think the guy at the market gave me more of the purple as it was end of roll. I really recommend the “rag market” if you are by Birmingham as there is tons of useful stuff for making things there, and it is pretty cheap.
We went for a coffee at Cafe Nero, a welcome break from all the carrying of a load of material haha. It was really nice to catch up over a coffee with Lulu, and talk our weird “same wavelenth” nonsense.
We also stopped in at the now closing down Model Zone, which is a shame because it had some useful things. But everything is half price so picked up some paint for Pazuzu hohoho…
We also stopped in at The Candystore, which sells some interesting street wear and it is nice to see different stuff from the normal high street shops. Worth a look if you are in the area. I noticed a sale item I really want :x…
Couldn’t be a good day out without stopping in a Primark though, and battling through the crowds there haha. Saturdays are always…well, mental.
We came back for Charlie to do Lulu’s hair all pretty like (cause he is good at hair), and then walked her back as she only lived down the road, and got myself a tin of soup for dinner. Hahahahahah. (And whilst I was gone Charlie made me a lovely smoothie thank you :D)
I will now carry on with cosplay things, I have to finish the holsters, other eyepatch, spray painting, and lets try making a cape! I haven’t made anything like this before by myself so…uh, lets see what happens haha.
The plans for Ayacon are as follows;
If you are around at Ayacon, I guess I will see you there!
Ok, so for a couple of upcoming cosplays I am going to be eye patched. I thought it would be nice attention to detail to blind and scar one eye so if I do take off the eye patch for a while, it won’t ruin anything from the costume! So, on the hunt for a blind lens Charlie stumbled across FunnyLens from Germany. I used their ebay to order, as it was easier and everything was already set up for me. They were fairly cheap to order, I think it came to about £23 and it got here really fast with DHL/Parcelforce. Less than a week fast. They came today, so I thought I would give them a quite write up!
They came in a box, with free case and solution which I wasn’t really expecting.
They came safe and sound so really all was left was to try them on! All pictures were taken on an Iphone and in natural light.
Got them in fine, they feel as comfortable as the circle lenses I own. Obviously the only odd feeling is you can’t see through them, but the milky effect is fantastic. Would be great for a zombie shoot? (Also I will mention now I had just got back from work so I look a bit rough and scruffy but please ignore that haha)
The specs are:
- dia: 14.0 mm
- bc: 8.6 mm
- lifespan: 1 year
I have naturally light eyes and I do usually take a prescription but obviously in this case I don’t have to worry about that.
Also, here is a video so you can see them moving, they are quite good at not slipping and look very cool.
(Intro music by Blam Honey-Fly to Flier, thank you Charlie :P)
They are very comfortable but being blind is an unusual sensation. No slipping though!
They look fantastic.
I am looking forward to using these!
