Review – HobbyFx.co.uk Fangs

I have had these fangs since 2009, and they have lasted me well. When I wear them I always get asked where I got them from as they do look realistic, so I will give all the information out here!
Now, I like dressing up as vampires. Or demons. Or things that may have fangs.
I have tried the Scarecrow style fangs before, with the putty you use, and I had honestly no joy. They fall out, they get lost, they didn’t fit my teeth in all honesty. I find they also don’t quite match the colour of natural teeth. I know for some people they work fine, but I was after something a little more realistic.

HobbyFX I was really interested in due to the way they are made, and how they fit. Basically, you get a pack to make a mould of your teeth, send it back to the company, and they will create a unique set of teeth specifically designed to fit your mouth. They then just..”clip” in! It is a veneer which covers all the front teeth, which helps in looking natural.
1236533_486419424787839_2058397537_n
I remember doing the moulding was fairly easy, you had to heat it up into a sausage shape, press it against your teeth for a few moments, then remove, and let it dry.
The fangs themselves do take a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you can wear them for hours, drink in them, eat in them (to a certain extent), and most importantly, speak with hardly any difference.

The guy who owns the company is really helpful and lovely to deal with.
Now, the price has gone up since I got mine, but not really that bad still for what you are getting. I want to order from them again, and they also offer custom designs. They also offer a monthly payment plan, which is really useful I think.
They also do prosthetics and the like, but to me I think the fangs are the best thing about the shop.
Please check them out if you are after a good set of teeth!

Cosplay Progress + Review – SnK / Levi

Ok, so this cosplay is pretty much sourcing and buying rather than making, because it is so easy and cheap to find. Charlie scoured eBay and found the jackets we will be using.

The eBay seller is bigbigworld1991 and the items we have can be found here (NO. 1 on the colour choice).

We went for their “US M” size, and they are slightly on the bigger side, but it really adds to comfort. (Sizes are all available on the auction page).

The shop was pleasant to deal with. We were a bit concerned how long they were taking, but emailed the seller and they got back to me within the day, and told us the item was in the UK, and I believe the day after they turned up! I would happily recommend them.

The jacket itself is very well made. There are very few minor sewing hiccups but nothing really noticeable. The embroidered patches are lovely, and these jackets feature the blue details rather than black as some of the jackets you can buy do. The only thing it would of been nice to see was if the back patch was the same as the arm ones rather than just being stuck/printed on. We may buy the patches you can get to put on the back so they all match.

And pictures of it worn: (Please excuse my face with no make-up! I had a swollen spot/bite on my forehead and didn’t wanna put stuff around it).

Overall, I was very satisfied with the seller, and would happily use their eBay shop again!

Contact Lens Review – Circle Lens 2 U Imax Misty Grey

So, I was after cosplay lenses again and Charlie recommended me this website “CircleLens2U“. I was after grey lenses to try, and they had a promotion on (which they seem to do quite regularly), which made the contacts, prescription and shipping, less than £10. Jumped on it.

To note; I have naturally light eyes which are quite large anyway, images were taken on an Iphone, and all in natural light (except the one with red eye and obvious flash). I take a 3.50 and a 3.25 prescription.
The company themselves are absolutely fine, I would say their website isn’t as well made as PinkyParadise say, but with such cheap offers it is worth checking out. Also, their standard shipping was amazingly fast. The lenses got to me in under 5 days.

The contacts themselves it was hard to find any information on. I believe them to be a re-named Dueba pair, as they look identical and they have the same colours available. Excuse me looking derp. I would say it was quite nice trying a new company to order from.

The specs are:

  • dia; 14.2mm
  • bc; 8.6mm
  • lifespan; 1 year

Comfort: 5/5
Had no trouble with these pair.

Appearance: 3/5
Not overly noticeable but good for subtle things. Can look slightly brown.

Enlarging: 3/5
Not a great enlargement.

London trip

I think I felt like writing so I will post about last weekends excursion to London.

We basically took a trip down to London on the day for our friend Finlay’s leaving costume party (and birthday). I posted about clubbing with her a few posts back, and as she is a proper laugh to hang around with it was a little sad to think she is going!

Charlie made Titan themed cupcakes for the occasion (which tasted great but sadly died in transport down). We had a mad rush for the coach (which turned out to be late) and travelled down in style (in costume, haha). Also had lovely drinks on the way down of kokomo.

My fantasy costume consisted of a bit of randomness, I think I came out with a vampire demon pirate thing. Charlie did a ever so slightly Vald demon thing (which I do not have many pics of sadly).

I felt like I ended up looking a bit shironuri lol.

The party itself was held at the Yorkshire Grey pub, it was closed purposely for the event which was quite nice, but my god even for London the drinks were expensive. There were many people we did not know there, but we have made a few friends from the event now, one of which who actually lives in Birmingham! It’s always fun to meet people local!

We did get pretty drunk and tbh the night ended in us dancing to the Attack on Titan theme and a load of Die Antwoord (ironically someone who worked there was South African and knew Ninja when he was Watkin), shouting COOONIE SPRINGAAA everywhere, and Charlie shaking hands with people. I remember also I was told to be a titan. It was a very titan night.

Finlay it has been fun, enjoy your time in France and Japan, and hope to see you again in a while!

We ended up waiting for our coach back the morning after by doing an all nighter in various McDonalds and Victoria Station. Then it was back home, and a well deserved sleep.

So, the girl we met in at the party is cosplaying Hanji (and now likely joining our London Expo group), and the photographer we met wants to take pics at the same event! Lovely meeting people like this :D.

Tomorrow we are going to go to meet some of the people from the Birmingham Cosplay Guild for the first time, and Sunday I have a cosplay shoot with DeclineGothica, so I will probably have a post about those too!

Irvine Kinneas / Final Fantasy 8 test thing

So uh, yeah, in Birmingham up Cape Hill there lives possibly the best wig shop I have been to yet. It is just called “Cape Hill Hair & Cosmetics” but fuck me it is a big shop, and the AMOUNT of lace front wigs they have…ksjdbfahb

(Also apologies but I can’t get this fucker to post how I want it to grump)

On a recent trip there looking for Irvine wigs came across a really good one which has his red tones in it. So snapped it up! It is going to be styled bit by bit (by the master at life, Charlie), as it can take heat on it too. Anyway enough about a wig and the shop.

For this test I used:

Illamasqua 115
MAC NC15 (Which I am trying to find an alternative to, if anyone can recommend?)
Brown palette
Sugarpill Tako (amazing pigment btw)
Saffron Eyebrow Palette 02
(And when I had my eyebrows thickened a little, that was Illamasqua too)
Contacts lenses are circle: EOS Fairy Blue

I think when I do the next one/expo I will use my posher palette as there is a bigger selection of browns. Also I had trouble with brushes for some bizarre reason doing (one of those days things?) so I think I can do it neater. Also I will have the hat and a bit more costume by the time I do it again. Gonna be wearing at London MCM Expo.

I feel like the gayest Irvine in the world :”’)
If you are going to London expo, hope to see you there! 😀

Ayacon Apocalypse 2013 (and London Expo plans)

So, finally doing a write up on the last ever Ayacon (for those that don’t know it is a Japanese culture/anime/cosplay convention).

Prelude:
The Thursday before the con was pretty much making sure everything was indeed completed. Shazz came up to travel to the con with us, and we watched many a silly thing. Listened to some Rammstein as far as I remember too haha. It was an enjoyable travel to Coventry, as the con crack had already started, and we were singing Attack on Titan theme tune really badly to each other. As we were staying at different hotels, us and Shazz parted ways for the time being. The hotel we stayed in was the De Vere Village, the room was the upper suite, and the bed was fantastic. We had free Sky tv and HD movies and Starbucks drinks in the room. It worked out cheaper staying here than on the campus the convention was held at, so all in all a bargain really. We had a walk to the Warwick Arts Centre (though someone told us to go a really long way round) and met up with Shazz again, and had one drink…bloody bar was closing. The Costcutter there I must say is fantastic for food from all different countries. We ended up with loads of Italian snack food.

Day 1:
Today was Weiss Kreuz day! First things first, though, breakfast. The room we had gave us a free breakfast every morning, and coffee and tea, not bad stuff. So, we got made up, and hit the con. We had Kat joining us in this group, and met up with a few familiar faces. It was quite chilled out, but then towards the end of the night I threw up and we went home. Whoops lol.

Day 2:
This was the DOGS: Bullets and Carnage day. I think this was the most fun costume to wear in some ways. We skipped breakfast this day and got ready, and head on out. Immediately as we got out of the taxi though, the person whom we know who was cosplaying the “bad guy” from the series was walking towards us, completely unplanned…but a perfect meeting really. (You can find him here). We mooched round the dealers room, and we ended up acquiring this gem:

999764_158235421040256_2032612544_n

We changed into the evening gear and I took a shit load of crap selfies haha. Ended up back at the bar, with our crew. We wanted to go to the J-rock party, but it was scheduled for 1am, and it seemed really late to wait for especially cause we didn’t know if it would be good or not. We ended up briefly at the K-pop party, but the DJ then changed to J-idol music and everyone fucked off. We just went home after.

Day 3:
Vassalord and Gorillaz was the main aim for today.  Vassalord was so fun, and a couple of people recognised it. Charlie and Shazz ended up with Balamb Garden T-shirts from here (Really cool stuff! Check em out!). We were introduced to a free purikura machine and played around in that for a bit. Then toddled off home to change into Gorillaz. Unfortunately there was some bug going round at this con, a lot of our friends got ill. Charlie got hit with it on the Sunday so we went back to the hotel and he got some rest. A lot of people missed the final party due to this, but hey there will always be another con!

After getting home I think even though I didn’t need to, I felt a bit low that it went so fast. We are hoping to re-wear some of the costumes for some pics, I have a cosplay shoot for a couple of them in September.

LONDON EXPO is next in October. I am highly excited for this, and we have groups which is exciting.

Final Fantasy 8/Attack on Titan/DOGS
c-schneider will be Squall/Jean/Haine
Shazz will be Zell/Eren/Naoto
Ballet Shoes will be Quistis/Armin
Georgi will be Sephie/Mikasa
Myself Irvine/Levi/Badou

Photos for this blog were all taken/edited by either myself, c-schneider or paper-plate

Contact Lens Review – Pinky Paradise EOS Adult Green

Snapshot_20130812

Ok, ok, they just arrived today. Pinky Paradise were one again wonderful to deal with, the contacts were a day late but that was due to Fedex bumping them off the first flight for room. Had my prescription in stock … Continue reading

Day Out: Birmingham City Centre + Ayacon plans

So, this is the last weekend before Ayacon, and we nipped into town to get some last bits and pieces for our cosplays. We also met up with Lulu, whom we haven’t seen in a long time, which was really nice. (She also does wig commissions here)

My first stop off was to try this Amazon locker thing, which was really cool. They are situated in the Bull Ring shopping centre, and it saved me having to pay shipping this way, which if you can get to one easily I think is worth it. I got my simplicity pattern for a new Murdoc cape which I haven’t had since 2008, so it will be nice to have one again.

IMG_5847

Next was the markets, to pick up some poppers and elastic to finish off a couple of cosplay bits. I also went to get material for the cape, and ended up with 6 metres of each colour for £21 (though looks a bit funny on the computer), and damn there is a lot of material there. I think the guy at the market gave me more of the purple as it was end of roll. I really recommend the “rag market” if you are by Birmingham as there is tons of useful stuff for making things there, and it is pretty cheap.

IMG_5848

We went for a coffee at Cafe Nero, a welcome break from all the carrying of a load of material haha. It was really nice to catch up over a coffee with Lulu, and talk our weird “same wavelenth” nonsense.

We also stopped in at the now closing down Model Zone, which is a shame because it had some useful things. But everything is half price so picked up some paint for Pazuzu hohoho…

IMG_5846

We also stopped in at The Candystore, which sells some interesting street wear and it is nice to see different stuff from the normal high street shops. Worth a look  if you are in the area. I noticed a sale item I really want :x…

Couldn’t be a good day out without stopping in a Primark though, and battling through the crowds there haha. Saturdays are always…well, mental.

We came back for Charlie to do Lulu’s hair all pretty like (cause he is good at hair), and then walked her back as she only lived down the road, and got myself a tin of soup for dinner. Hahahahahah. (And whilst I was gone Charlie made me a lovely smoothie thank you :D)

I will now carry on with cosplay things, I have to finish the holsters, other eyepatch, spray painting, and lets try making a cape! I haven’t made anything like this before by myself so…uh, lets see what happens haha.

The plans for Ayacon are as follows;

Friday – Farfarello (Weiss Kreuz – anime version, white outfit)

Saturday – Badou (Dogs: Bullets & Carnage – Vol 0. version + formal)

Sunday – Rayflo (Vassalord – anime version) and Murdoc (Gorillaz – phase 2)

I have some updates on costume things here and here if you are interested!

If you are around at Ayacon, I guess I will see you there!

Cosplay Test (Kinda?) – Levi/Shingeki no Kyojin

Just a quick one really, just made my hair black again so thought I would do a bit of a face test for Levi…something to do on a Wednesday night right?

I am using for lenses these which you can find here and a review of them here. I think he actually has..grey eyes maybe? I don’t know, need more research haha.

I would like to cosplay him really cause Attack on Titan is actually a good watch and a good read, and I am not the biggest anime/manga fan on the whole. It has it’s moments of being really funny and other moments of being wtf.

Now to get a green cape. Great.

Cosplay Test – Badou Nails/DOGS:Bullets and Carnage

Just a quick post to show progress on Badou, I am really excited to do this in August at Ayacon! (Along with Farfarello, Rayflo, and possibly Murdoc).
